Resistive touch screens are operated using pressure. They can be activated using any pointing surface, such as a stylus or finger.
Capacitive touch screens, on the other hand, use conductive energy – the human body is conductive – and can be activated by the touch of a finger.
How does a resistive touch screen work?
Resistive touch screens contain two transparent conductive layers separated by an insulator. When pressure is applied to a specific point on the screen, the flexible plastic surface comes into contact with the glass screen. This causes a variation in the current at the two axes and allows for the detection of the pressure source’s location.
How does a capacitive touch screen work?
Unlike resistive technology, capacitive touch screens are covered by a rigid layer of glass. When the user touches the surface with their finger, it influences the electric field, and the finger’s position can be calculated based on the load leakage.
